How to Host a Bonfire Party 🔥
Living in Australia means that we have to be extra careful with fire. We know that fire can spread easily and needs to be handled with care. This blog post will give you some tips on how to host a bonfire party safely and in a fun way! Some of my fondest memories have been around the campfire, telling stories. So grab some friends and start the party with these tips!
- Get a Bonfire Pit 🎇
Nowadays you can get bonfire pits for a cheap price from your local Target or Bunnings Warehouse. The fire may not reach the sky, but it will still be big enough for you and your friends. If you don’t want to buy a fire pit, why not hire one online or from a friend. Make sure that you position the pit on concreate or a patch of dirt so that no grass catches fire. These pits are a small price to pay to make sure that the environment and your property doesn’t catch fire! Remember that bonfires are not permitted in built-up residential areas so either find a friend with some property or scale down your fire to a small backyard pit.
- Use Dry Wood and Leaves🌲
This one seems obvious, but it has to be said. Dry wood and leaves burn a lot easier and better than wet wood and leaves. Often you don’t need to purchase these either! Check out Facebook marketplace and see if anyone is giving wood away for free? Often people advertise jobs for people to come and collect their dead leaves and palm fronds. Why not go and collect theirs and use it for your fire?
- Campfire Snacks 🍬
Marshmallows are essential at campfires. If you don’t have them someone will notice! Biscuits and chocolate are also a must-have to make smores. Why not try making popcorn in the campfire? Another great campfire snack are mini sausages. Just check that they are cooked well before you eat them! It is best to have some warm and cold drink options on the side to appease your guests. It might also be fun to try making pizzas over the campfire. The council allows backyard fires if you are ‘cooking’ so our tip is to always throw something on the fire!!
- Party Space 🎉
Although the bonfire will be the star of the show, having an extra space set out for party guests to talk, eat, dance and move is essential. People get fidgety if they sit down for long periods of time. I recommend hanging fairy lights and using big drums as tables. Put on some relaxing music quietly in the background for a great ambiance.
We hope that these tips have helped you! We would love to hear your favourite campfire memory in the comments below. 🔥
